Generation, Transport and Fate of Surfzone Bubbles

چکیده
ur long term goal is to develop a tested model of optical properties in the surfzone and adjacent nearshore ocean, including the influence of suspended sediment and bubble population, to assess how optical properties are related to short term events such as individual breaking wave crests, and to determine how wave-driven surfzone circulation influences optical properties just offshore of breaking through seaward transport of fine sediment and small, persistent bubbles.

Analysis and Modeling of Surfzone Turbulence and Bubbles
Turbulence in the surfzone mixes momentum vertically, transmits stress to the sea bed, influences the structure of the crossand alongshore currents, and controls the suspension of sediment from the sea bed. In many coastal and shelf environments, the sea-bed is the primary source of tur bulence due to bottom induced shear. In the surfzone, the breaking-wave generated turbulence dominates over ...
متن کاملMeasuring Fluorescent Dye in the Bubbly and Sediment-Laden Surfzone
Decisions about recreational beach closures would be enhanced if better estimates of surfzone contaminant transport and dilution were available. In situ methods for measuring fluorescent Rhodamine WT dye tracer in the surfzone are presented, increasing the temporal and spatial resolution over previous surfzone techniques. Bubbles and sand suspended by breaking waves in the surfzone interfere wi...

Terrestrial runoff and river input dominates urban pollutant loading rates Often draining directly into the surfzone, this pollution degrades surfzone water quality, leading to beach closures (e.g., Boehm et al., 2002), increases health risks (e.g., diarrhea and upper respiratory illness) (Haile et al., 1999), and contains both human viruses (Jiang and Chu, 2004) and elevated levels of fecal in...

متن کاملModeling of Surfzone Bubbles Using a Multiphase VOF Model
We formulate a general multiphase model representing water-bubble mixture fluid and multi-component bubble populations. An enhanced 2-DV VOF model with a k− turbulence closure is used to model the mixture fluid phase. The bubble phase is governed by the advection-diffusion equations of the gas molar concentration and bubble intensity for groups of bubbles with different sizes. The initial bubbl...
